Mid-Winter Meeting

The OSA Mid-Winter Meeting is held every year in January in the Willamette Valley area of Oregon. The one day event consists of committee and general member meetings, workshops, and includes lunch. Scholarship awards are presented to eligible applicants. The day concludes with an evening reception to honor past OSA association presidents. The preliminary meeting agenda is below.

  • Dr. Alan Sams, Dean of OSU College of Agricultural Sciences: Dr. Sams will speak at lunch and give us his plans for the college of ag
  • Pay Equity Law Update: learn what changes go into effect January 1, and what you need to do to keep your business in compliance
  • Panel on 2019 Session Bills: four lobbyists will each speak on upcoming legislative bills and give us their thoughts on bills relating to tax matters, pesticides, wage/labor, and grower-specific issues

Recently, the Oregon legislature passed the most sweeping statewide equal pay law in the nation. Oregon’s Equal Pay Act of 2017 is the most all-encompassing, and yet, most quietly passed employment law in the United States in 2017.     Each panel speaker each present several bills expected in the 2019 legislature related to corporate taxes, pesticides, wage/labor issues, and grower-specific issues, giving the pros and cons of each bill as it applies to seed dealers in the industry—both large corporations and small companies—and their recommendation on whether OSA membership should support or oppose the bill.
